All My Ducks In A Row
I knew they were winners.
When last I wrote about my Ducks in a row they were playing for the Rose Bowl…NOW they are playing Auburn in the BCS Championship Monday night 1/2011 for the title for the top!! Isn’t it nice to go for the top!?
I do not have tickets…and my cat is sick and HOW can a former head cheerleader not go!!?????? It just isn’t right.

GETTING MY DUCKS IN A ROW
I am a Duck. An Oregon Duck. I fly a lot. I like flying. I like the wind beneath my wings: the lift and loft. The freedom. And I like great landings especially, because it means I made a safe flight. I made it happen. Thank goodness for good feathers and a pretty good sense of direction. That is the key to “getting there”. Maybe it’s because I am a Viking Duck. Vikings...

Sailing on San Francisco Waters
Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m in denial. I have left California. I miss the weather, my view, running down the hill to the beach and thinking about my father who lived there in the thirties taking publicity stills for movie stars and working for A.P. Gianini, founder of The Bank of America. I long to talk to him and to hear his stories. He died long ago but San Francisco gives me the...
DUBAI DEBBIE, Part 2
Our host’s birthday dinner for his wife was over the top and so was getting there. The host’s driver picked Laura and I up, and in the midst of all these crazy people golfing at night with bright lights (because of the daytime heat) to see at the country club, we were driven to the garbage area. We looked at each other and amidst gales of laughter, told “Ichbol” (no joke)...

DUBAI DEBBIE, Part 1
I was watching “60 Minutes” and there was a piece on Abu Dhabi, The UAE…. I was a flight attendant and I wasn’t even sure where that was. I know the globe, I thought. But I’d forgotten about the gulf, Oman Quatar I wanted to go to Abu Dhabi. It wasn’t what it is now but it was close. The “pocket” for the United Arab Emirates. I would get there. I...
Flying the (not so) friendly skies...
A hot August afternoon in Denver in the 1980’s changed me forever. In a moment’s notice I had to make the choice for action. Bravery was not something I was thinking about at the time.
I was based in Denver as a flight attendant for a major U.S. airline. I commuted to Denver from Portland, where I lived at the time. I arrived in Denver in time for my 2:15 check-in for a 3:15...

outlaws......
Many times in life we just have to take those chances…not to be an outlaw mind you, but open up yourself to taking chances. Some times they work out and other times you realize you’ve just “invested” time with the pure scoundrels. And then when you ignore the gut, the inner voice, the TRUE that is you, we enter worlds into which we can only hope to learn. Well, maybe all...
Stressed, Depressed...
It was early morning…sometime before Regis and I was slowly waking up when the phone rang. Things had not been good….maybe it was spring of 2000. Yes. Something told me to carefully pick up the phone next to my bed and not breathe into it… hold the mouthpiece way up high.
“Did you get her !&$** money!?”
“NO. And she is not going to let me to...

March 12, 2010’
I am flying over Iceland on my way to Oslo. It is the dawning of the 12th of March. Iceland is a mass of solid white…evidance of one of the snowiest years on record for the northern countries. My god, it was majestic, pure, pristine, and with jagged coastline edges that curved around the coastline that was simply met by a blue edge. The ocean that kissed the...

Debbie Does Dubai
One year ago I went to Dubai. It was June, the Portland Rose Festival is always in June. That’s right, it’s a swell idea to have a rose festival when the roses are not in bloom yet.
Soooo, I needed heat and even though I wanted to really see the $$$$$$$ (Abu Dabi), I had a connection to visit Dubai. I predicted the cranes would be still in 9 months. There will be more later in...

American of Norwegian descent gets caught in ice...
Deborah “ice” Berg while visiting the new Opera house in Oslo slips on an ice covered ramp and falls into the icy Oslo fjord.
Miracle occurs; a polar bear swimming by the opera house, spotted Berg, gently put her in his large mouth and dropped her on the lower bank. She obviously is not a seal. Thank God.
Well, back to Norway…you see the Opera House was the new one that was ...
